Arcade gamers in Palmerston North have a new venue to hit up, with Timezone Palmerston Square now open.
Located at 113 The Square in central Palmy, the new spot is just around the corner from the old Timezone on Broadway Ave (which is now closed). I’ve never been to that one, but by most accounts it was very small. The Square is a much bigger venue with more space for games, including Dance Dance Revolution, Maimai DX, Taiko no Tatsujin, bowling lanes, and the usual assortment of ticket and prize games.
One of the highlights is ColourGrid, a game involving a large floor covered in light-up tiles that players interact with by stepping on. That concept allows for a unique take on the floor is lava, red light green light, and several other games. Palmerston Square is the first Timezone in New Zealand with Colour Grid, though you can find similar experiences (same general concept, different brand name) at a couple of places in Auckland.
