The FIFA 2026 World Cup is coming! I know you are wondering why you should care.
I will make 5 concise points on why you should care:
- Football is life
- The All Whites are going to the World Cup
- Football is life
- Motorola is the official sponsor of the World Cup
- Football is life
It’s a big milestone for the company and industry, marking the first time the smartphone company has partnered with FIFA, a partnership that will run through 2027.
This is a comeback for both Motorola and New Zealand. Motorola phones officially relaunched in the local market just last year, and New Zealand qualified for the tournament for the first time in 16 years – the timing couldn’t be more perfect, and the excitement is palpable!
Fun facts:
- This is only the third time New Zealand has been in the World Cup. The last two times were in 2010 and 1982.
- Captain Chris Wood will be the only returning player for the New Zealand squad – he last played at the 2010 World Cup at 18 years old.
- He’s seen incredible success in that time, currently playing for Nottingham Forest, who are 7th on the EPL table (and the birth of his first child, also in 2025!)
- The current All Whites squad has had plenty of international and domestic playing time, with 12 players playing in Europe, 3 in the US and the remaining 7 in New Zealand.
