Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will land on PlayStation 5 on 26 June 2025, or from June 24 with early access for some deluxe versions of the game. Pre-orders opening on March 17.
Sony and Kojima Productions announced the release date with a new trailer shown during SXSW. In true Kojima fashion, the trailer is 10 minutes long and raises a whole lot of questions. Death Stranding 2 takes place 11 months after the end of the first game, with a setting that extends beyond the “United Cities of America” (former USA) into South America. The trailer also introduces a host of new characters and their actors, including Luca Marinelli, Alissa Jung, and Shioli Kutsuna. There’s also a tease of a character that a lot of commenters on YouTube are describing as a “legally distinct Solid Snake”—make of that what you will.
Death Stranding 2 is, as you’d expect, the sequel to 2019’s Death Stranding. To call that game divisive would be an understatement—whether you see Hideo Kojima’s directorial approach as excessive or insightful, Death Stranding is a game where he was given free reign to go nuts. If this trailer’s any indication, Death Stranding 2 is going to take that to another level.
Sony also unveiled a couple of special editions of the game. The Death Stranding 2 Digital Deluxe Edition includes early access from 24 June and an assortment of in-game items; the physical Collector’s Edition includes the same, as well as a Magellan Man statue, Dollman keychain, art cards, and a letter from Hideo Kojima.
