Harman Kardon has launched three new portable home speakers, promising “crisp, immersive sound into an attractive and elegant speaker design.” The Onyx Studio 9, Luna, and Go + Play 3 are available now directly from Harman Kardon and from select retailers, including Noel Leeming, PB Tech, and Spark.

Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 9
The Onyx Studio 9 is billed as “the best-sounding Onyx Studio speaker yet” thanks to three-channel design and Constant Sound Field (CSF) technology. The speaker optimises sound based on surroundings, ensuring high-quality sound wherever its placed, and can connect to any other Auracast-enabled Harman Kardon speaker for a surround sound effect.
The Onyx Studio 9 sticks with a circular design similar to its predecessors, but now features an integrated handle and aluminium stand. The included battery should allow for 8 hours playtime per charge (depending on volume and what you’re listening to), and is consumer replaceable.
The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 9 carries a RRP of $499.95.

Harman Kardon Luna
The Harman Kardon Luna is the cheaper of the new models, coming in at $229.95 RRP. It’s a compact, ultra-portable speaker designed for carrying from room to room or using outside, with 12 hours battery life and an IP67 dustproof and waterproof rating. As far as sound quality, it’s running a two-way speaker system and Harman Kardon’s advanced drivers, and two units can be paired together for a true stereo sound.
The whole thing is made with sustainability in mind: the speaker grille fabric is woven from 100% recycled polyester yarn, 85% post-consumer recycled plastic is used in the frame, and the top panel is made from 50% recycled aluminium.
Harman Kardon Go + Play 3
Lastly, there’s the Go + Play 3, designed with versatility in mind. This one packs high output 3-way stereo drivers, a new exposed down-firing subwoofer, and dual far-field microphones, making it as useful for conference calls and Zoom meetings as it is for listening to music.
The semi-circular design and handle keep it portable, and like the Onyx Studio 9, it automatically tunes to new surroundings to optimise sound. It’s also got an 8 hour battery life, and is made from a high percentage of recycled materials: 100% recycled polyester yarn for the outer fabric, 90% recycled aluminium for the handle, and 85% post-consumer recycled plastic is used in the internal frame.
The Harman Kardon Go + Play 3 will run you $399.95 (RRP).
All three speakers are available in grey or black.
“Music is essential for creating atmosphere in the home, whether you’re relaxing or entertaining,” said Michael Sherman, Senior Strategy Manager at Harman New Zealand. “Beyond their functional purpose to deliver great sound, these speakers blend premium materials like luxurious textiles and sleek aluminium finishings to make a stylish addition to any home interior.”
