Earlier today, Sony unveiled the PlayStation Plus Monthly Games selection for February. Square Enix’s upcoming party shooter Foamstars leads the charge as an exclusive day-one inclusion, with Rollerdrome and Steelrising rounding out the list, playable from 6 February.
Foamstars is Square Enix’s take on a Splatoon-esque shooter, where foam is both your main weapon and a way of modifying the terrain, “creating slippery surfaces to surf around the arena at high speed, help defend from enemy attacks, or create vantage points to take out opponents from.” Multiplayer PVP modes are the main attraction here, but it does also include some sole and team-based PVE modes. Foamstars will be exclusively available through PlayStation Plus on 6 February, ahead of a standalone release on March 5.
Rollerdrome is Roll7’s eclectic (and critically-acclaimed) mash-up of third-person shooter and skating game, pitting players into shootouts on roller skates “where kills grant health and nailing tricks provide you with ammunition.” Lastly, Spiders’ Steelrising takes the Soulslike formula to a steampunkish riff on the French Revolution. It’s a divisive one, in part because of technical shortcomings, but it’s certainly an ambitious game that’s worth trying out.
As always, these Monthly Games are available to claim for a month, but remain playable for as long as you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription (including if you cancel and rejoin at a later date). They’re available to subscribers in all three PS Plus tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium.
