We’ve got a release date for SaGa Emerald Beyond. The latest game in Square Enix’s long-runnig SaGa RPG series comes to Nintendo Switch, PS4/5, PC, and mobile on 25 April 2024.
Square Enix announced the release date as part of a 34th anniversary livestream for the series, hosted by SaGa series Producer Masanori Ichikawa, Executive Producer and SaGa series General Director Akitoshi Kawazu, and Localization Director Neil Broadley. They also shared more details about a couple of the main characters in the new game, Tsunanori Mido and Ameya Aisling:
“Tsunanori comes from the esteemed Mido family, whose bloodline uses their unique ability to control kugutsu puppets to complete all manner of odd jobs. He joins the Cathedral Project, made up of a group of explorers who investigate other worlds, with the goal of repairing his city’s weakening barrier and to help reclaim lost spiritual energy.”
“Known by her pseudo-identity Yumeha Izumi, the Miyako City schoolgirl, Ameya is actually a witch from Pulchra whose powers were stolen from her. Ameya hopes that by following the mysterious emerald waves, she’ll discover who stole her mana and become the best witch anyone has ever seen.”
SaGa Emerald Beyond is the 11th console game in the series, which has been kicking around since Final Fantasy Legend (called SaGa in Japan) landed on Game Boy. SaGa is known for its more open-ended take on JRPGs, with multiple choices for main characters, stories that branch heavily based on players choices, and non-linear levelling systems that allow a high degree of flexibility.
