A Final Fantasy 4X strategy game? Not quite, but Songs of Silence might be the next best thing: a story-rich fantasy strategy game with an original score by Hitoshi Sakimoto of Final Fantasy Tactics fame, out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Developed by indie studio Chimera Entertainment, Songs of Silence drops players into a world caught up in an all-consuming holy purgatorial war: “the Age of a Thousand Kings”. The game combines turn-based 4X strategy with fast-paced, real-time combat, while three different factions offer unique strategies, playstyles, heroes, and mechanics. As well as a 15-odd hour story campaign, there are over 100 skirmish maps for solo or multiplayer games.
Songs of Silence is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, followed by a Steam Early Access launch in June. With the full release comes the complete campaign, additional maps, the culmination of various improvements made during early access, and the console release. The developers have also outlined a post-launch roadmap with further improvements and DLC plans.
“First and foremost, let us express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported Songs of Silence so far,” said Creative Director Alex Kehr. “Your passion, feedback, and dedication have been instrumental in shaping the game into what it is today. With your support, our vision is now a reality, and we are forever honored and thankful.”
