Looking for a new “stealthvania” to get lost in? The Siege and the Sandfox brings a sneaky metroidvania adventure to PC on May 21, developer Cardboard Sword announced yesterday.
The Siege and the Sandbox will see players exploring a majestic but besieged palace as the titular Sandfox, a faithful protector of the crown. Use a combination of stealth, cunning, and parkour to explore the desert palace and the ruins, brought to life with hand-animated pixel art and dynamic Unreal Engine visual effects. It’s the debut title from Cardboard Sword, a “AAA-experienced multi-talented team with over 160 years of combined experience”.
“We are excited for our debut title The Siege and the Sandfox to finally get into players’ hands! Developing a meaningful 2D stealth game has been an ambitious undertaking for the team, and we are eager for our fans to play and enjoy it,” said Olly Bennett, Cardboard Sword CEO.
“As a studio we set out on this development journey to create a new indie game IP with a unique 2D stealth element. Art led a lot of our development process, inspiring the narrative and gameplay mechanics. The hand-animated retro-style pixel art, combined with the hand painted normal maps and Unreal lighting and effects, provides an incredibly rich visual for players – really immersing them into the game world of the Sandfox.”
The Siege and the Sandfox launches May 21 on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Humble.
