Timezone is opening a new arcade in Rotorua

There’s a new arcade coming to Rotorua, with Timezone’s new Rotorua Central Mall venue due to open on 20 December.

The new Timezone is located in the mall at 21 Victoria St, Rotorua, in a site that used to be home to a Countdown supermarket. Games confirmed so far include Dance Dance Revolution (20th anniversary gold machine), the ever-popular Maimai DX, Taiko no Tatsujin, and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6, as well as other activities like Colour Grid, Spin Zone bumper cars, short lane bowling, and the usual assortment of prize and ticket games.

There’ll be an opening celebration on December 20 with face painting, superheroes and princesses, live entertainment, and chances to win big prizes. The first 200 guests to show their Timezone app will also get free Timezone plushie.

Timezone’s been on a roll with new locations – Rotorua will be the third new spot to open this year, following Palmerston North in June and Queen Street, Auckland in August. I’m just hoping it will be Wellington’s turn soon; the Courtenay Place arcade is great and all, but it’s tiny, doesn’t have space for new games, and really doesn’t lend itself to aura farming. A new venue in the capital (or even just moving the existing one to a bigger, better location) would be a hit.
