I have been using EPOS IMPACT headsets for work for a while and love them. The comfort and quality are beyond outstanding and I love them. What though if you don’t have over $500 to drop on a wireless headset? Well, EPOS has brought a wired version of the IMPACT 760T to a much more affordable range, around $250.
The sound
The major reason you will want to upgrade your work headset is the sound, right? Well, the EPOS IMPACT 760T has you covered here. The sound quality is exceptional; regularly throughout meetings, I would stop and try to break it, crank the sound up, drop it down, and switch suddenly between the two, and I was consistently impressed. It didn’t skip a beat, and my colleagues sounded fantastic.
Obviously, this isn’t designed for gaming. Listening to YouTube videos, podcasts, etc. all worked perfectly where the focus waslistening to voices. It’s an office headset after all.
The mic quality was also excellent. People did ask what settings I had changed on my laptop because they noticed how much crisper I sounded. Of course, they were disappointed it was a new headset and not something they could quickly tweak in Windows, but hey, at least the headset is good. All the mics built in and some snazzy software meant they consistently couldn’t hear background noise. That meant they had to listen to my annoying voice so cleanly.
The rest of the features
One of the first handy features is that it is USB-C and USB-A enabled. This is achieved by, you guessed it, an adapter. The benefit of a cable is that the adapter is tethered to the cable. Now it’s USB-A; unplug it, and it’s USB-C. Using your USB-C port now, boom, one second, and it’s a USB-A headset again. The power of adapters.
The other big benefit that cabled headsets offer is the ability to have a controller dangling below your neck. Instead of fumbling around the headset and trying to blindly press buttons, you can keep the headset on and look at what you are pressing. The controller has a spinny dial at the top for volume, which is fantastic, and then some other buttons for control.
The cable it comes with is about 2 metres long, which isn’t as common as you would expect, as it’s the perfect length. You can turn your camera off in a meeting and lean back in frustration without yanking your laptop off your desk. It also has a nice velvety bag that helps keep it tidy and packed away as you throw it in your bag at the end of the day.
Should you get one?
If you are looking for an office headset and want a cabled one, then this is an absolute banger. Over the weeks I have tested it, I have been consistently impressed. Of course I haven’t used it for a year to see how it holds up. Having said that, if the quality is as good as the previous headsets I have used from EPOS, I wouldn’t worry there.
