I have been loving using smart lights around the house lately. From increasing and decreasing the light with a voice command or app to changing the colours to fit the vibes of the movie you are watching. It’s a little thing, but I have been loving it. So when I got the chance to take those fun features with me, I was so in!
So what even is a WiZ Mobile Portable Light?
Good question; it would be handy if someone would write a review about it. Oh, that’s my job. Well, let me tell you. The WiZ Mobile Portable Light is a cylindrical light that is pretty similar to the size of camping lights. Out of the box it’s a big white thing, but man, once you fire it up, it’s hard not to fall in love.
Almost the entire surface lights up with a nice frosted style that makes it super easy on the eyes. The top of it has a few touch buttons that let you turn the light on and off, turn the brightness up and down with a cool touch slider, and the ability to cycle through modes and colours. You can plug it in and play, and it’s so much fun to play.
But there has to be more to it than that, right?
Yup, as with the WiZ range, it’s a smart light. You can use the app to change the colours, change the style, change the way it changes colours, and so much more. Best of all, it doesn’t have one colour at a time. You can split it up into multiple colours going from the bottom to the top, and this is especially cool when you have it dynamically changing the lights.
The other major thing it has going for it is that sweet portable in the title. You can carry the light around with its little handle and pop it where you need it. That’s because the WiZ Mobile Portable Light has a battery that can last up to 8-10 hours. Obviously the battery life depends on how bright you have it, how much you change the colours, and how much you use dynamic features. I got 8 hours out of it on average, which is properly impressive.
So what would you use it for?
The WiZ Mobile Portable Light isn’t waterproof, so no, it won’t be your cool new camp light. What it does do is allow you to pop it outside when the weather isn’t crap or move it around the house. You can use it to walk around the house when the lights are down, or when you’ve got kids and need to duck into their room when they wake up at night and need to not stand on whatever crap they have scattered on the floor.
I may have used the latter more than expected, but where I found it most useful was moving the light around the house as part of my light setup. You can pop it down below the TV to add to the vibes, or try moving it next to your couch so you can find your beer with the lights dimmed. You can pop it on your bedside so you can dim it as you wind down for bed or turn it up as you try to wake up for work. It’s so flexible in its use. I found it useful having the WiZ Mobile Portable Light plugged in and then unplugging it when I needed its mobility.
How about the smarts?
Setting the light up for the smarts is as easy as any of the WiZ products to date. In the WiZ app you can easily add it to the room so it adds to that specific room’s ambience. Then adding it to your smart home setup is as easy as ever thanks to the excellent support like Matter. I had it in Alexa in seconds, and again, it was super easy to add it to your room.
The other major benefit is it supports WiZ’s Smart Sense. That feature, which is also in heaps of lightbulbs, picks you up when you walk in the room and turns the lights on. I found the sensor in this works super well, and found having it to the side of my door made Smart Sense work so well in the house.
Should you get one?
Seriously, this light is amazing. It’s fun, it’s versatile, and it’s shockingly reasonably priced. At up to $149, though regularly cheaper on sales, it’s damn good value. This might be my favourite smart light in the house so far! The ability to control it via a smart home, the app, or the controls on the top make the WiZ Mobile Portable Light an absolute banger!
The WiZ Mobile Portable Light is damn good value. It's fun, versatile, and a must have for your smart lighting setup.
