There are so many awesome ways to light up your house in smart ways, but nothing looks cooler than a TV with the changing lights behind it. The problem is it isn’t the cheapest thing to buy and can seem daunting to set up. Well, WiZ has come to give you a simple cost-effective solution that is shockingly good.

    The setup

This is seriously simple to set up. In the box you have the light strip, which you can use the 3M sticky back to attach to the back of your TV. Since the lightstrip is designed for multiple TV sizes, there are little clips to hold the excess cable tidily out of the way. Then you plug it into the sync box using its USB cable, plug the power in and then connect the HDMI cable from the TV into the box, and then the HDMI cable from the box into whatever is putting the image on your TV.

Turn it on, and boom, it works. It’s so easy. Immediately the lights started glowing behind my TV with the shifting colours from the TV onto the surrounding wall.

There were slight delays at times between the light changes, which I noticed when I was explicitly looking for them. Once I stopped looking for it, I stopped noticing it straight away. Suddenly everything from movies to YouTube videos was way cooler.

Then there are more options to play with the lights in the WiZ app. The most notable thing is you can link other WiZ lights to it, indicating how far away the light is from your TV. This lets them add to the syncing, enhancing the awesome in your house!

    Any negatives?

The only minor negative I noted was that because it uses the HDMI port, it does only have one input. So if you use it on your TV for a Chromecast, it’s super easy. If you have three consoles and a Chromecast, then you are temporarily stuck. Fortunately, it does support HDMI switches, so you can connect it to one of them and use the switch to change feeds.

The only other thing is because it uses HDMI for the lighting, if you use the Smart TV functions on your TV itself, then it can’t pick that up. Thanks to how Smart TV support sucks, I do recommend using a separate device for your apps, like a Firestick or a Chromecast. If you do, aside from better app support, you will also be able to benefit from this beauty.

Should you get a WiZ HDMI Sync Box?

Hell yeah! Given the price of $200 for the 55-65” setup and $250 for the 75-85” kit, this is a damn affordable way to take your TV watching to the next level. It’s just an all-round banger! I will be seriously considering it when I can afford one.

    9 Hell Yeah!

Reasonably affordable, super easy to set up, and looks dope as hell. Any minor flaws are massively overcome by the things it does well, and it does them so well!
