Chaotic shoot-’em-up Schildmaid MX comes to consoles next month

Fans of arcade-style shoot-’em-ups have something to look forward to next month, when the frenetic Schildmaid MX comes to consoles. This frenetic side-scrolling shmup comes to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and the Microsoft Store for Windows on November 26.

Originally released on Steam in 2023, Schildmaid MX puts an intense new spin on bullet hell shooting with its unique shield mechanic. Using your ship’s advanced Schildmaid technology, you can absorb enemy shots. But when the shield runs out, danger time kicks in, jacking up the intensity—and scoring potential. It’s a system that can be used both defensively and aggressively, creating a dynamic balance of risk and reward.

A variety of game modes cater to all players: Jaeger Mode and Krieger Mode are the “standard” arcade-style modes, with Jaeger being a beginner-friendly option and Krieger being designed for shooting game veterans; both these modes also have “extra” versions with altered mechanics to “push scoring and survival past their original limits”. There’s also a survival gauntlet (Chimera Mode) and the “short and seriously spicy” Sieger Mode.

The console release is being published by eastasiasoft, with digital pricing is set at US$19.99/€19.99 (NZ pricing to be confirmed). It’s also getting a physical release for Nintendo Switch via PlayAsia, in both a standard edition and a Limited Edition that includes the game, soundtrack CD, Joy-Con sticker set, and a numbered certificate in a collector’s box.
