There are so many options when it comes to keyboards that it can be easy to get choice paralysis. Well, with the introduction of Hall-effect sensors, Logitech is making a strong play to suggest you go for the Logitech G PRO X TKL RAPID Keyboard. A couple of weeks in, and it’s a dang strong contender.
What’s new?
Obviously, if you are thinking of dropping $350 on a new keyboard, there are serious questions to ask about what justifies the purchase. Well, straight out of the gate, we have the aforementioned Hall-effect sensor keys. But what the hell does that mean? Well, in short, they use sensors to notice a key press. In the Logitech software, you can change how sensitive this is, meaning you can make it super sensitive if you want to ever so slightly press the key and have it register. Seriously, it can be as low as 0.1 mm. I feel like breathing would make it move more than that… I may need to see a doctor.
There are many reasons you may want this. Maybe you need to save a little time by tapping keys for faster in-game action. Maybe you want to change the setting when you are around others so they don’t have to hear the mechanical clacks of the keys. Well, with this setting, you can get it to be exactly as responsive as you want, and then you can change it on the fly. WFH day, quiet, jamming games at night, satisfying clicking sound. Whatever works best for you, this keyboard can accommodate.
What about the rest?
Since I have covered the awesome newness in those sweet new sensors. How about the rest of the keyboard? Well, for the most part, it’s a nice TKL keyboard. The build quality feels nice with a nice metal cover under the keys and a solid bit of weight to it. It feels like I could go on a killing spree with it, and it wouldn’t break the device. Though Logitech at no point mentioned I should test it on a killing spree… so I didn’t.
The keyboard comes in white, black, or pink. With the shade of pink chosen by Logitech, I couldn’t look past it. It’s gorgeous. The keyboard itself is slightly larger than other TKL keyboards I have used, but not by much. It has one of the rollers on the top for adjusting volume easily on the fly and a couple of feature buttons on the top to do things like changing lighting settings, muting etc. The lighting, like previous ones, glows out from under the key and through the letters. As always, it looks dope as hell.
Changing settings on the Logitech G Hub software is super easy. From here you can customise your RGB, the key’s actuation point, the rapid trigger feature, and all the other bits and pieces.
Gotta have some downsides, right?
There are some minor ones. The first is that it is only available in a wired version. I do love wireless kits, but it’s not an option here. It also uses a USB-C cable, which always throws me off as it makes me think it’s wireless. But that’s not the case. The benefit to this is if you damage or cut the cable, you can replace it so that isn’t $350 down the drain.
It also doesn’t come with a carrying case like some previous models. Given it is wired and reasonably heavy, I suspect this means they didn’t plan for it to be a portable device. That is pure speculation, though. The keys also aren’t hot swappable, but this is a feature I have used once. So, not a major for me.
Should you get one?
The Logitech G PRO X TKL RAPID is a fantastic keyboard for the price. If you are looking for something with the heft and feel of mechanical keys, but with that dope ability to customise the sensitivity, this one is a no-brainer.
The Logitech G PRO X TKL RAPID is an absolute banger of a wired keyboard.
