My Hero Academia: You’re Next Blu-ray review

My Hero Academia has done a good job with its movies. They have been easy to pick up and watch even without the context of a previous season. Well My Hero Academia: You’re Next keeps this rolling with a cracking new movie that you can now pick up on Blu-ray.

You’re Next kicks off with a man who is watching an old All Might film and is inspired by him. We then jump to our classic heroes who are fighting some villains when some mysterious characters turn up. Suddenly a man looking a lot like All Might turns up on a big flying sparkly ship. It turns out we have ourselves a new villain, Dark Might, who wants to be a hero by being the most powerful man around. That’s never gone wrong before, right?

Thanks to some interesting quirks, we see a big sparkly blob absorb a bunch of the city and our heroes. Inside that blob, they are suddenly in a fake world, built by Dark Might. They are left trying to find their way out, defeat Dark Might, and save a mysterious woman who causes a whole heap of pain.

The story itself is pretty good, not amazing, but pretty good. It’s enjoyable enough, but far from the best we have seen from My Hero Academia. The animation, on the other hand, is exceptional. The big sparkly blob was an especially stunning moment that popped on the screen. The bulk of the movie is the usual great animation, but the handful of moments where they go outside the realm of normal, it looks silly good.

This Blu-ray also features a short feature where Midoriya’s notebook, where he analyses everyone’s quirks, is discovered by his classmates. It also includes the Japanese video that played in cinemas telling people to be respectful during the film. These are the kinds of little things that make owning a Blu-ray worth it.

You’re Next might not be the best My Hero Academia around, but it is fun, entertaining, and well worth your time. It wraps itself up nicely, and is still an enjoyable story with some insanely good animation. You owe it to yourself to watch this on Blu-ray!
