I have been travelling for the last few weeks. My older Ring products have made me feel way better being away from home.

When is that package arriving? Who is trying to swing by the house? Why the heck are my parents at my front door? All of those are answered with the use of a Ring doorbell… well except my parents motivations.

Anyway, if you are looking to add something to your home, then Ring and Blink have some new kit to check out in your home!

Research Reveals Depth of “Away-From-Home Anxiety”

The research found that over half of Kiwis (57%) worry about things back home when on holiday, with home security (61%) being the top concern, followed by pets (49%) and family or loved ones needing support (40%). Car security (37%) and parcel deliveries (36%) are also top of mind for holiday goers. Outside of home security, over a quarter (26%) worry about their garden, and 17% are thinking about work.

For nearly three quarters of Kiwis (72%), these worries are not trivial—they report that these concerns directly affect their ability to relax while on holiday, with 15% saying their worries “greatly affect” their ability to unwind. Almost one-third of Kiwis (29%) have had a home-related issue disrupt their holiday at least once, underscoring that these concerns are not unfounded.

For nearly one in five Kiwis (19%), these worries start as soon as they leave their property, while 23% begin feeling anxious while in transit via plane, car, or train. Another 19% report concerns arising upon arrival at their destination, and 26% develop worries within 1-2 days of being on holiday, showing that for most people, anxiety begins early in their vacation experience.

Holidaymakers aren’t leaving the security of their homes to chance when they’re away. Kiwis are relying on tech, with over 30% trusting smart home devices or security cameras, and 23% checking in remotely via app or video doorbell.

Notably, 61% of respondents agreed they would find it easier to relax on holiday if they could check in on their home virtually, highlighting the potential for smart security solutions to address this common anxiety.

“Our research clearly shows that “away-from-home anxiety” is a real phenomenon affecting millions of Kiwis during what should be their most relaxing time of the year,” said Mark Fletcher, Ring and Blink Managing Director, APAC. “Summer holidays are meant to be carefree, yet for many, they’re tainted by persistent worries about what’s happening back home. However, with a quick tap on your phone, you can literally see that everything’s fine. It’s like having eyes on your property while you’re soaking up the sun – providing peace of mind so you can enjoy your well-deserved break.”
