Sumerian Six is coming soon, and if there is one topic that isn’t covered in games enough, it’s that Nazis are bad. That line may be a touch tongue in cheek, but so far Sumerian Six is shaping up to be an intriguing game. I got the chance to take the early game for a spin, and I am liking what I see.
The game kicks off with an interesting premise: a group of scientists have found an interesting new resource called Geiststoff. They hoped to harness it to create unlimited clean energy, but it turns out it’s way too dangerous. They agreed as a group that they shouldn’t share it with anyone and keep the danger protected. Except that’s not how a video game starts, and as such it gets shared with Mr. Hitler.
The daughter of one of the scientists manages to insert herself into the team now working on the project. Then the game kicks off with her brother sneaking into enemy territory to find his sister, and we get stuck straight into the action.
Sumerian Six is a tactical stealth game that has you moving characters around to kill Nazi’s. You start off with one, but the team quickly grows with each having their own weapons and, best of all, special abilities. I won’t spoil much here, but Sid has the ability to zip into enemies bodies and pop out at any time. This is incredibly handy when you need to pass a lot of guards looking in a certain direction and you want to be behind them to, you know, kill them Nazis. Isabella has the ability to go invisible for a certain number of steps.
The limitations don’t stop there; one of the early levels showcases the cleverness built into these Nazi killing puzzles. The task is getting past a wall. Isabella can climb under small areas but can only climb ladders. Sid can climb all kinds of stuff but not get under small passages. Can you guess what the game has you do? Yup Sid needs to climb up a plant against a wall to kill the Nazis on top and then climb down the other side. Isabella has to climb under a passageway. Once on the other side, they are separated in an area where there are heaps of Nazis walking around and looking, leaving you to find the right way to knock them off one at a time.
I haven’t beaten the game yet, but thus far it is looking like a damn excellent game. The aesthetic, the story, and the gameplay are all lining up for a great time to be had. Time to go kill more Nazi’s.
