If you ask Alexa for a lot of info, then you aren;t alone. Heaps of peps use Alexa for simple things like turning on your lights or finding out when the next Wahs game is. Unfortunately, reading the below Auckland FC made the list and not the Mighty Wellington Phoenix.
Read on to see what peps keep asking about.
Taylor Swift’s reign shows no signs of slowing down. For the second year running, the global pop sensation has dominated Alexa interactions in New Zealand, claiming the top spot as the most asked-about celebrity. Kiwis couldn’t get enough of Swift, with questions ranging from “How tall is Taylor Swift?” to queries about her net worth, who she’s dating, and of course, requests to play her music.
But Swift isn’t the only musical phenomenon capturing New Zealand attention this year. Enter KPop Demon Hunters – the fictional K-pop group from Netflix’s hit series has taken Kiwi households by storm. The virtual band features multiple tracks in the Amazon Music top 10 most-requested songs, with “Golden” by HUNTR/X, “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol” by Saja Boys dominating playlists. New Zealand born ROSÉ appears in the Amazon Music top artists list, and “Golden” by HUNTR/X claimed the number one spot for most requested song overall.
“Alexa has become a go-to for every type of question you can imagine for Kiwi customers,” said Kate Gooden, Country Manager, Amazon Alexa ANZ. “Whether they’re asking about Taylor Swift, discovering new artists like HUNTR/X, checking rugby scores, or simply asking ‘how long do you cook an egg?’, Alexa has been there to help. It’s fascinating to see how customers’ curiosity has changed over the years with Alexa – from the practical to the playful – but T-Swift remains an enduring favourite.”
While global stars dominated the charts, Kiwis also showed strong interest in homegrown talent. SIX60, Stan Walker, Lorde, L.A.B. and Corrella made up the most requested local artists on Amazon Music as Kiwis championed local music. Meanwhile, “Blue Eyed Māori” by Corrella, “Slice of Heaven” by Dave Dobbyn & Herbs, and “Poi E” by Patea Māori Club were the most requested tracks featuring local artists on Amazon Music.
When it comes to sport, the NZ Warriors were the most asked-about local sports team, followed by the All Blacks, Black Caps, Auckland FC and Waikato Chiefs. There were no surprises that rugby league and rugby union were the two most asked about sports overall. Football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were included in the top most asked-about celebrities overall, with MrBeast, Ariana Grande, and Eminem also making the top 10. Questions about celebrity heights, net worths, ages, and relationship status kept Alexa busy throughout the year.
Kiwis also turned to Alexa for life’s burning questions and general knowledge. Curiosity about population size remained high, with customers asking about population sizes for countries including Australia, New Zealand, the United States, China, and India. Islamic prayer timings were frequently requested, with queries about Maghrib, Dhuhr, Asr, Fajr, and Isha prayer times. Practical cooking questions dominated the kitchen, with customers seeking guidance on cooking times for healthy foods including eggs, chicken, broccoli, sweet potato, and salmon, as well as asking “How to cook for just yourself?” Sleep-related queries were popular too, with many Kiwis asking “how to fall asleep?” and “how to fall asleep fast?”
