One thing I discovered with my Magic The Gathering journey is that while the game is fun, the events are where they are at. Going down to my LGS, and playing against people, that’s where the real fun of the game is. Since Flesh and Blood’s name is based on the idea of playing games in person, it only made sense that early in my journey I try out an event in person.
So I headed down to Bea DnD to try out a Blitz Armory Event in person!
What’s a Blitz and what’s an Armory?
Blitz is a casual format that has 40 cards in your deck, plus your hero and equipment. It’s designed to be short and snappy, so you can smash a game and move on to the next one. That is something I definitely enjoy, and best of all, with a lot of Blitz preconstructed decks out there, for $20 you can be ready to go.
An Armory is the term that FAB uses essentially for the seasons. So each Armory has certain promo cards and prizes you can earn. An armory event means you have cool stuff to earn by playing, like some amazing foil promo cards or even a dope playmat.
So what is a Blitz event like?
For this one, it was a Friday night, and we played three games. Each match was a battle. So have a Blitz match, get paired against someone else, and battle again. This was interesting as Blitz matches are nice and short by design, and so it doesn’t take long to smash out the event. The one I went to took about an hour and a half, including fluffing around between matches. I am used to leaving Friday night Magic events at 10:30, but I was well home by 8:30 on Friday and still felt like I had played heaps of FAB.
It was kind of the best of both worlds.
What about Bea DnD?
If you have been following my journey as I have gone from a Magic Newbie to a, well, slightly less Newbie, you will know I love Bea DnD. Friday nights, a lot of Saturdays, and the occasional Sunday, I head down to that store. Sure, the games are fun, but it’s the community that keeps me coming back and engaging. So I was a wee bit nervous about a new gaming community, except in my own store. It turns out I shouldn’t have been.
The FAB players at Bea DnD were super welcoming. We have some seriously experienced players and some newbies, and between us, we all had an absolute blast. The old hats were more than happy to help explain their cards and help me figure out how I could or should do my plays. They are as keen to see their group grow as you are to try it.
So, as always, head down to Bea DnD. You don’t have to tell them I sent you; go down and have fun.
Should you check out a Flesh and Blood Blitz Armory Event at Bea DnD?
Yes! Yes, you should! It’s a fun way to play a fun game with a great group of people who are there to have fun and will help you have fun too. Best of all, Flesh and Blood is a hell of a lot cheaper than Magic: The Gathering. Once you have your Blitz deck, it’s only $15 to play, and that scores you packs and a promo card, so it is serious value. Given the price of the brand new Modern Horizons 3 events, it’s almost a necessity as the cost of living crisis is real.
Thank God it’s fun; otherwise I might have lost my Friday night fun for a while.
Great store! Great community! Great game! Excellent way to spend a Friday night!
